Ravensworth Golf Club lies on the outskirts of Gateshead near the village of Eighton Banks . It was originally founded in 1906 as a nine hole course on land owned by Lord Ravensworth. In 1907 Lord Ravensworth was nominated to become our President. This he duly accepted and his successors held this honour for may years stepping aside for our current President Ron Gransbury in 2010.

In 1913 Ravensworth Golf Club decided to extend their nine hole course to eighteen holes. To extend the course the golf club had to rent land from the National Coal Board. In 1995 the golf club was able to purchase the land from the Coal Board.

In 1998, representatives for the current Lord Ravensworth expressed an interest in the land leased to us on which our old clubhouse stood. They informed us that they intended to sell the land for re-development.

In view of the age and condition of the clubhouse this was seen as an opportunity to provide a clubhouse worthy of matching our excellent course with views that encompass The Angel of The North. Subject to funding and planning permission it was possible to build a new clubhouse on the land which we had purchased from the Coal Board back in 1995.

Funding and planning permission took a great deal longer than expected but we were eventually able to open the doors of our new building in December 2003.

Ravensworth is the seventh oldest club in Durham County and is one of the founder members of the Durham County Golf Union.
